The Power of Positive Thinking...

“Very little is needed to make a happy life. It is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”
This stands true to a large extent. Our lives are made by thoughts and ideas. We become finally what we think. Over the years what we read and hear and hold in our thoughts condition our mind with positive thinking. We become inspired and uplifted citizens.
“Two men looked through the prison bar.
One saw mud, the other stars.”
Do we ever stop to think how successful a failure can be? The most important test of a man’s character is not how he behaves after success but how he sustains his defeat.
The basic necessity of every human being is assuredly to know how to meet trouble when it comes, since much trouble in life is self- manufactured. It is wise to think positively. Life is not always a bed of roses. Troubles do come and in different forms. Positive thinking builds a person in the spirit, conditions him in the mind so that when adverse situations arise he has equipment and resources to handle them constructively. So when a situation looks hopeless thinks positive. When everything looks impossible , refuse to accept defeat. When unexpected damage wrecks our dream, then what? Never dwell on what we have lost because if we do, we will be discouraged and defeated. Always look at what we have left not what we have lost!

HARDWORK --- A KEY TO SUCCESS...

You do not come across success just by hoping for it. To achieve true success, you need the strength of mind and body to struggle and work hard to reach your fullest potential. You need the right attitude, self-discipline and the ability to put your goal before your own needs, if you are really driven towards reaching success. There is, after all no substitute for hard work, and as Henry Ford says, “The harder you work, the luckier you get” – the more successful you get!.. But many times the question arises in the mind that what are the ways to overcome success???  The only and the only way is----

Intense hard work along with great skills shall help you win one success after another. There shall be innumerable obstacles strewn in your path towards success, however, what makes a man truly worthy of the success that he attains is the ability to keep struggling until he can reach his goal. Giving up after a few failed attempts makes you a loser.
A truly successful man will keep trying and keep struggling until he perfects his art. Thomas Edison failed approximately 10,000 times while he was working on the light bulb and yet he never dreamed of giving up – this is the hard work and the determination that marks a true success. Indeed, success is not measured by the position that you are in, today but the amount of hard work you put in and the number of obstacles that you overcome to reach your goal.

Many times people think if there shortcuts to get success, why to work so hard???

The good thing about working hard is, that for people who are driven towards their goal can enjoy their hard work and consequently, the work does not seem unduly grueling to them. When you begin to work hard towards achieving success, make sure to work smartly too. An intelligent working technique, along with relentless effort will go a long way in helping you achieve the success that you always desired.
Nothing in this world comes easily, least of all, success. Take the example of Abraham Lincoln who worked hard, without ever getting disappointed of his countless failures, from the age of 21 till the age of 52, when he went on to become the President of the US. Again, it took Noah Webster 36 years to compile his Webster's Dictionary. Where would we be today if he had not put in those countless hours of hard work behind his grand contribution to the English language?

Therefore, you need to remember that there are no short cuts to success. Hard work, complimented with an intense desire to struggle and to achieve success is the only sure shot way of reaching success that you have always wanted…..

FAST FOOD & CHILDREN’S HEALTH...

When we feel like eating something, the thing first come to our mind that it should be prepared quickly, tasty and colourful. It should be tempting like sandwiches, pizzas, burgers, chips, soft drink etc. The name given to all these kinds of food is fast food, which contributes little or no nutrient value, but instead provides excess calories and fat.
Junk food can be appealing for a various reasons, like convenience, price and taste. For children, who do not always understand the health consequences, it may appear especially appetizing. Regularly consuming fast food can lead to complications in children like – obesity, chronic illness, low self-esteem or even depression. It may also effect in their extracurricular activities. It also reduces their energy level and concentration periods of time.
Children set the foundation for life long habits, but it reduces their well rounded development. Physical activity is also essential for children of all ages and for that they need sufficient energy, but fast food does not provide the necessary nutrients to the body.
Self esteem and confidence is important for growing children. But due to regular consumption of fast food  can have a negative impact on it. It can affect a child’s physical development like- weight gain, self-esteem problems, depression etc.
Fast food also does not provide family members opportunity to set & eat at one place. Child lacks the qualities like-sharing with others or family members, feeling of togetherness, respecting elders, eating habits, food satisfaction which a combine can meal provide, is lacking in fast food.
A well balanced food contains all essential elements which are necessary for a child’s development. Whereas fast food does not have all these elements.

The school students should be always promoted to eat healthy nutritious food. The leassons of quality food starts from home as well as school.

Engaging Younger ones into Reading and Role of public Libraries...

For the infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers, the focus is on setting a firm foundation for functional literacy so as to inculcate a reading habit in a child’s early years. The Early Read agenda aims to bring together educators, parents and librarians working collaboratively to impart beneficial pre- reading skills to children.
Learning to read starts long before a child enters school and there is a strong connection between the development a child undergoes early in life and the level of success that he will achieve later in life. For instance, infants who have the pre-reading skill to distinguish the building blocks of speech at six months are found to better at other more complex language skills at two and three years of age. They are also noted to be better at acquiring the skills for learning to read at four and five years of age.
A child’s success in school and throughout life depends largely on the ability to read and children will usually learn reading skills when they begin pre-school. One concern is that children may not be entering formal schools equipped with the fundamental pre-reading or early literacy skills to actively participate in the learning process. There are few free-extra-curricular reading programmes for pre-schoolers outside of childcare and kindergartens. In addition, not all adults understand how important it is to develop skills required for reading in very young children. Such parents are not aware that early literacy skills in children are needed to ensure that they are prepared for learning when they start formal schooling. Hence, raising public awareness of the importance of early childhood literacy is integral to helping young children acquire reading skills.
The Public Libraries is in a strong position to drive these initiatives for the following reasons. First, early literacy development requires direct engagement of parents, and Public Libraries have established robust engagement and programming platforms with families. Second, libraries can provide proportionately more learning time outside of short formal schooling time for pre-schoolers. Third, reading in the early years involves family, social and emotional engagement that is better supported by recreational reading in libraries than a purely academic acquisition of literacy skills in pre-school.
The Early Read agenda has a three-prong approach:
·         Implement measures that support and guide parents and educators understand and adopt early reading habits, equipping them with competencies and toolkits that inculcate good reading skills and habits in children;
·         Establish a strong foundation in the area of reading literacy from a young age; and
Sustain interest in reading as an important lifelong skill to have in all children.

CORRUPTON IN INDIA...

Everyone must be aware of corruption, as now it has become a part of life. In my opinion, corruption is when a civil servant or any person holding powers misuses them to provide benefits to him or others by violating the laws. Today’s society is totally wrapped around corruption.

Corruption in India is a serious topic
One can even write on it a great epic.

We all talk about corruption but why corruption is so widespread? According to me, the basic reason behind corruption is imbalance of job opportunities, everyone knows about the reservation of seat in politics and jobs in government offices which was done to progress the weaker sections of our society. This reservation is taking another form in today’s society as it is contributing towards hampering the country’s development. Due to this reservation, a high post is acquired by a less than what he deserves. This is the root cause for corruption at lower level as the intelligent one will try to get more as he was not offered the job as per his intelligence. Thus, whenever someone comes to get his work done the more intelligent one, by taking bribe or any other benefit, get the person’s work done as he knows that the person above him has not so much of capability. Moreover, corruptions at higher level has more impact in increasing corruption as the less intelligent, without judging the gravity of the work and for a small benefit, do the work. This clearly signifies that corruption both at higher and lower level is increasing continuously. Environment, politics or any other field is totally corrupt. Now a days everyone wants a comfortable and cultured life, more and more people wish for respect/ honour in the society which gives rise to competition among people. Due to greed and jealously, people use wrong methods to earn more money and reputation in the society. This competition even spoils an honest person.
Thus, corruption is the basis not only for the destruction of India’s developments but also for the values like honesty, humanities, integrity and character. Citizens of India choose their representatives in elections to run the country. In other words, we choose the parents of our country but if they too are corrupt what will happen to the country?
Scams and scandals are so common in the newspapers in which politicians, industrialists and capitalists are involved and best example is A. Raja. As Rajiv Gandhi said if 1 rupee is given to the government only 15p is used for the welfare of the people and the 85p goes in corruption. It’s really true.

We say corruption chokes
Then why we Indians breathe it?
We say corruption kills
Then why we breed it?
It widens the gap
Of poor and rich
Then we continue the same
Without any hitch…….?

Just to talk about corruption is not its solution. If we really want to eliminate it from India, strict actions should be taken. Firstly, I would suggest everyone should be given whatever he/she deserves on the basis of his/her talent and capability. No matter how rich a person is, he is a magistrate or a politician, industrialist or simple common man, laws should be same for all and cases should be filled against them. Strict implementation of laws and a little peace of mind while electing representatives in elections before casting their votes would be useful.
Corruption can be removed if the whole country and government put more efforts to eradicate this cancerous disease from roots of India.
To finish corruption is my plan
If you join friends I am sure we can

TRUTH IS THE SOURCE OF GOOD REPUTATION...

Today ‘Jealousy’ and ‘Ego’ have become prevalent without any limit in the entire world. If one of the students gets first class, the other students become jealous of him. Similarly, if somebody is healthy and happy, others feel jealous of him. A pauper feels jealous of a wealthy person. The same can be said of birds and animals also. Cranes make fun of swans. The melodious singing of a cuckoo is like cacophony to crows. Wordly people are like crows. Therefore, people who are on the path of truth should not bother about what others say; they should make efforts to lead their life on the righteous path.

Without bothering about the barking of dogs, the elephants to move forward majestically. Where the elephant is and where the dogs are! There can be no comparison between the two. Likewise, a cuckoo bird continues to sing melodiously without bothering about the cawing of the crows. Does it stop singing just because the crows are cawing at it? No. In the same manner, people may feel jealous of your goodness, progress, wellbeing and purity. But you should continue to keep your heart pure without taking any notice of them. You should not be dejected or depressed by their negative feelings and criticism.

“If the feeling behind an action is good, it is bound to be fruitful.
If the feeling is polluted, according the result will be negative.”

MODERNIZATION – A NATION HAZARD...

“Modernization has come to mankind itself in several ways, Some say it’s good, some say it’s bad.”
Modernization refers to a model of programme transition from a pre-modern or traditional to a modern society. It looks at internal dynamics while referring to a social and cultural structures and adaptations of new technologies. Modernization seems to have main phases of its course at a certain point which carries institutions and values of the modern society. But beyond some points however modernization began to breed discontent on an increasing large scale. This is due to rising expectation provoked by early success and demands of people, Groups tend to make escalating demands which becomes very difficult to meet. India is one of the pioneers of modernization and will continue to be. It supplies its new resist technologies in countries like USA, Pakistan, Germany etc. but negative consequences of modernization are reaching height.
We invent a device for making our lives comfortable and then another to safeguard it and then another to safeguard the last one, and in this journey from good to better- better to best there is no full stop on inventions. It is not said that stop modernization and start caring for the nature, but if we cut seventeen fully grown trees for making a ton of paper, then we should plant 70 more trees there. Just imagine carrying heavy oxygen tanks on our backs will not be fun. We all know that a tree can reduce pollution created by a car driven for about 18,000 km. Modernization has affected our nation in fields of fishing, agriculture, food production and power management of power resources.
Coming to the topic of culture, Indian culture is always a salute as Indians have been caring for years.
Points to change are accepted but not in cost of losing its heritage and its trait.
Listen – “To be modernize does not mean to be rich in wealth or status but it means to be rich is wisdom.”

Youth can bring about a revolution in the political scenario of India...

Renowned American educator & civil rights leader, Mary Mc Leod Bethune once said, “We have a powerful potential & we must have the courage to change the old ideas & practices, so that we may direct their power towards good ends.”
To begin with let’s go back to the pre-independence era of India. During the struggle for independence Indian youth imbued with the desire to attain freedom threw themselves in hundreds & thousands into the turbulence of revolutionary politics. Their active participation in the struggle against British rule gave this nation the fresh taste of freedom. Politicians like Suresh Kalmadi, A Raja have degraded our country morally & hollowed economically.
None would have thought that this taste of freedom would turn bitter with the passage of time on the account of our so-called politicians who are poisonous, contaminated &illiterate modern goons. Present day politicians or the leaders governing the country are obsessed with the monomania to loot the country & fill their own coffers, for whom ethics are the most traumatic joke. Power by hook or by crook is their only motto which leads them to conspiracy & forging a network of like-minded politicians & bureaucrats.
On the wake of such disastrous situation, our hope solely lies on some honest, dedicated & devoted youth who are ready to sacrifice themselves for the welfare of the nation. It’s high time when a gang of young, talented, easy-going, open minded, technologically advanced & enthusiastic people must step in.
Albert Einstein once said, “It’s the duty of every citizen according to his best capacities to give validity to his convictions in political affairs. So, a sense of positivity should generate in the well-educated young minds in India towards making politics as a first preference career option.
Thanks to a fresh batch of leaders like Arivnd Kejriwal, Sachin Pilot, Milind Deora & many others who stepped in & set forth examples moves to exemplary politics with their reformative moves to eradicate corruption, crimes &criminals.
I personally &rationally believe that the level of political awareness among Indian youth is much higher than adults. Their active participation in politics can lead this nation towards the path of peace, prosperity & development.

A RESOLUTION...

A birthday bash, balloons and frills, cokes and colas, happy, smiling faces, aroma of cakes and delicious cuisines and everybody is waiting for the sweet, birthday girl. Here, she arrives and is ready to cut the cake and the next moment there is chaos, confusion, children screaming, moms scratching and infants crying. All thanks to our electricity department. You would all agree that life comes to a still with ‘switches being switched off.’
You turn the pages of the newspapers and daily you would come across the problems face dby locals due to electricity shortage. This acute problem is being faced by farmers, professionals, hospitals etc. to name a few of them. Our society is no exception. To improve electricity conservation in our area, a meeting was held in the community hall; all the residents including president and secretary were present in the low capacity room of the hall. Everybody was eager to put their individual discomfort but unanimously agreed to save electricity.
“Electricity saved is electricity produced.”
As one of the spokespersons, I decided to jot down all the suggestions given by my friends so that together we may draw any conclusion.
Later, as an active, enthusiastic participant I handed over the suggestions to the local council which included spree of dos and don’ts. ‘Restrict your usage’ and ‘switch off when not in use’ could bring a sea change in the consumption of electricity. Let us practice and teach ourselves not to overuse the electricity. Besides, these, switch off should be the vital slogan running throughout the areas.
‘Let us care and share.’
During day time, let the AC for living room work and all can sit around barring the use of ACs elsewhere. Another innovative idea was the use of CFLs which consume less electricity. General awareness through slogan writing, drawing competition, poster making could also be introduced regularly.
I hope, expect and insist that these suggestions would prove to be a milestone in conserving electricity.
Together we can and together we will bring a difference in this electricity deficient country.

PARENTING IN THIS ERA...

Children are God’s gift to us, and how we raise them is our gift to the world. In losing ourselves to the rat race and our preoccupation with competition and acquiring status symbols, let us not forget to enjoy these gifts. Children are a great source of joy, fun, laughter and relaxation. They have a right to optimum and wholesome development. Let us not deny them these rights. Let us enjoy our children and let us help them to enjoy their lives.
Very often, children are blamed by their parents for turning out the way they are when it is actually the parents who had used unfavourable child-rearing practices. Parents normally learn from their own parents, irrespective of whether their parents used good or unfavourable practices. Somehow it is hammered into their consciousness that what their parents said and did was the right thing. ‘Parents can never be wrong’ is the common belief. So they continue their parents used to do.
It is an understatement to say that the conditions in which their children are growing up. Now many children are alone most of time. Children are growing up watching television and playing violent games on the computer, and with fewer people to monitor the content.
Bringing up children is an entirely different experience in this day and age. Children today are growing up in a world of instant gratification and information overload. Distractions are too many. If parents expect their children to have the qualities that they had or obey them at the slightest indication, then their expectations are not realistic. It has never been tougher being a parent. But the important thing is to raise secure kids. Clear limits or do’s and don’ts are necessary. Parents should make sure that rules are being followed and consequences must be inevitable if they are not followed. Not necessarily in the tiger mom style, but in a gentle, firm loving way that shows who is the boss.

IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN TODAY’S ERA...

English is one of the most important languages in the world. It can even be said to be the single most important language. Yes, other languages are important too, but not for the same reasons as English is important. English is important because it is, maybe, the only language that truly links the whole world together. If not for English, the whole world may not be as united as it is today. The other languages may be important for their local values and culture.
English can be used as a language in any part of the world. This is because at least a few people in each locality would know the language. Though these people might not have the same accent as others, the language at least will be understandable. There are various reasons for the importance of English language. They are listed below.
1. Travel: When a person travels to another part of the world either for the sake of business or even as a tourist, the languages may differ. In these conditions, English is the language that helps people to deal with the situation. It is like a universal language.
2. Same country: In countries like India, where the land is so vast with people of various cultures live, the languages of each part of the country also differ. Under the circumstances, English can be the only link as people in each place will not be able to learn all the other languages to communicate with the people. English bridges this gap and connects the people.
3. Education / Studies: The presence of English as a universal language assumes importance in the fact that more and more people leave their countries not only for the sake of business and pleasure, but also for studying. Education has increased the role of English. People who go to another country to study can only have English as their medium of study. This is because the individual will not be able to learn a subject in the local language of the country. This again reinforces the fact that English language is very important.
4. Correspondence: All correspondences between offices in different countries and also between political leaders of various countries is in English. This linking factor also tells of the importance of English language.
5. Internet: In spite of the growth of Internet in various languages, English is the mainstay of the Internet users. This is the language in which most of the information and websites are available. It is very difficult to translate each and every relevant webpage into the language of various countries. With Internet becoming very important in E commerce and also in education, English language is bound to grow. Thus the importance of English as a language is emphasized.
English has a special status in India. Apart from having a place in the public institutions of the country, in parliament, the law courts, broadcasting, the press and the educational system, English has spread in our daily life. According to the scientific research, it is the most common communicative activity in daily life, “We can expect to listen twice as much as we speak, four times than we read, and five times more than we write.” Therefore, its importance is absolutely obvious.
One of the reasons why we must learn English in our life is, English is important to get a job. In this era, many people are jobless even though they have degree but no soft skills. Even though they get the best result in examination but fail to clear the interview or the exam of life. English language is considered as universal language. English helps to spread other cultures. It is spreading quickly, and is bringing a great impact in our daily life.

The future of English language is very secure. In this era of consolidation and trying to unify various aspects of life, it will not be before English can be made as single language of the world like the single currency and the union of various nations.

DISABLED PEOPLE AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS THEM...

“The only disability in life is a bad attitude”—Scott Hamilton

When we think of the word “Disability “, we generally form a mental picture of a person on a wheelchair. But we need to understand that there is a spectrum of disabilities, including physical, intellectual, visual, hearing and psychology. Disability is not impairment itself but rather it is attitudes and environmental barriers that often result in disability. Disability therefore is a social issue. Research indicates that societal attitudes and behaviours towards person with disabilities impact their lives and continue to do so leading to them having negative and devaluing experiences, including bullying, harassment, isolation, rejection, segregation, lack of relationships as well as lack of control over their lives.

Can something be done to prevent this kind of ostracism faced by people with different needs? Such social stigma and discrimination can be combated, for example, through direct personal contact and through social marketing. The need of the day is to bring about some legislative and societal changes and its proper implementation. And more importantly, what is required is a change in the societal attitudes towards people with disability.

We need to understand that people with disabilities want to be recognized for their abilities, not their disabilities. And Man is God’s creation. And it is the responsibility of every human being to respect God’s creation. It is the duty of each one of the citizens to work towards bringing about a change in the attitudes of the people towards persons with disabilities, so as to make the atmosphere more conducive, and thereby to make the world a better abode for them to reside in. While we may have a long way to go in this direction, each one of us needs to take a pledge to make a beginning.

WE FIRST MAKE OUR HABITS AND THEN OUR HABITS MAKE US...

Conquer your bad habits, or they’ll eventually conquer you. Constructive habits support us to resist temptations such as the temptation to procrastinate or to avoid challenging situations. When we exercise constructive habits, we develop an internal muscle to support our will and support our true intentions. When we allow ourselves to be complacent with unconstructive habits, we allow ourselves to stay put right where we are.

Don’t think where/ how you are? Develop a few new habits. Just one or two at a time. Give each new habit at least a month to take root. Then add one more new habit. Keep adding one new habit each month as long as you don’t feel overwhelmed; if that happened, don’t add anymore until you feel stable. You may even need to place some on the back burner if you’re seriously overwhelmed. That’s ok; it’ll happen in good time. The important thing for new constructive habit is to root firmly.

Adopt the practice of observing your behavior and your mind and of catching yourself being tempted to do something or not to do something that isn’t constructive for you. It may not be easy at first to notice and observe much, less to resist the temptation to fall back into old behavior, but if you are diligent and consistent about it, you can not only break a bad habit, but even form a new positive habit.

What is one habit that is holding you back? Which habit is holding you back the most? Which habit, if it were eliminated, would improve your life the most? What constructive habit would best replace it? How can you put a plan in place to overcome that bad habit? For example an internet addict might have turned this way because he needs to socialize online. If he managed to socialize in a better way he won’t feel like using the internet that much. Many people want to break bad habits but aren’t really motivated to do it. This usually happens when they don’t have a good reason to quit. Once you start knowing more about the harmful effects of your habit, whether they are physical or psychological you will become more motivated to break it. You will notice the positive affirmation on the mirror. Think & what can you put in place today to transform the most critical habit you identify?
TAKE CARE OF THE FIRST STEP RIGHT NOW AND SEE HOW IT GOES!

Dilemma of Handling Present Day Students...

Gross materialism is eating into the vitals of society and a certain agnostic attitude is evident almost everywhere. In today’s era, when almost every child has easy access to the internet, kids have become curious about certain aspects of life, which they want to explore much before the right age. As such sometimes they fall prey to their curiosity and inadvertently land into serious trouble. It is also seen that children today cannot deal with emotional stress and they try to convert psychological pain into physical pain by inflicting some sort of injury or harm to self or even commit suicide. This radical change causes worry to the society and increases responsibility of teachers.

Role of Teachers in Meeting the Challenges:
Teachers play a significant role in elevating quality of students. Education must be focused at producing smarter, morally and spiritually strong and globally competent students, who are motivated, value based, able to take sound decisions based on critical thinking, communicate effectively and pursue life long learning. Therefore, there is a need for the teachers to modify traditional educational methods and their day to day dealings with the students. The following points, if followed and implemented strictly in letter and spirit, would go a long way in addressing some of the problems of the students.
a)      Teachers should be role model, by setting personal example.
b)      Teachers should be caring and sensitive in their behavior towards students.
c)      Rapport is to be established and communication with students should be non judgemental, patient and tolerant. Students should feel free to share their personal problems.
d)      Teachers should never condemn, compare or label a student.
e)      Always help students develop EQ along with IQ, so that they can face adverse situations and calamities stoically.
f)       The need to sharpen and update their skills on a regular basis to meet the demand of students, who are today far more inquisitive and tech savvy.
g)      In today’s environment E-learning and audio visual methods are of utmost importance and compatible with the present day requirement, hence should be incorporated into the system.
h)      Teachers must endeavor to develop creativity and innovative approach in teaching to achieve the best possible results and enriching personality, realizing full potential and attaining multi-dimensional development of students.
i)        Teachers should provide ample opportunities in form of discussions, debate and innovative projects to make classroom teaching more lively and effective.
j)        The moral values that nourish and nurture moral being should be laid stress upon and developed in students.
k)      Teachers should never indulge in physical handling of a child for any mistake.
l)        The paradox of today’s metro-urban culture is that parents have time for everything except for children, who are generally left alone. Since changing social dynamics make double income families a norm, this also adds to the existing problem of managing children. Therefore, it becomes imperative on part of the teachers to have a regular interaction with the parents particularly in those cases where the child is not upto the mark.
The above list is in no way exhaustive and comprehensive and these are a few random thoughts with experience, which have been jotted down as guide and can always be improved upon by a talented teacher.
