Learning is
a continuous process and the school is playing a very important role in this
process during the formal education of a child. School shapes this learning and
this learning becomes a fun if it is done by play way method of teaching. Playing
MATHEMBOLA was a project and a step towards learning while enjoying.
The project
was accomplished with the students of class VIII in the month of July as a part
of one of the British Council activities. The project started with the meeting
of Maths teachers although the guidelines and working strategy had already been
decided long back when the action plan was submitted.
On 16 July
the teachers, Ms Swati, Ms Rubina and Ms Rachna under the flagship of HOD Maths, Ms Asha Arora
asked students to undergo vigorous research and find ISD codes of various
countries. Next day the teachers collected the ISD codes and randomly selected
40 countries . Alist of codes and countries were given to all the students and
through a questionnaire their learning outcome was assessed.
The
fundamental terms used in Mathematics till class VIII were then related with
these codes and yet through another questionnaire the students were judged. The
knowledge of prime numbers, composite number, square, square root, area of
triangle were being revised in a very quick and easy way.
Tickets
comprising 64 boxes were prepared by students
and teachers assigned ISD codes . Finally the day arrived which was long
awaited by our dear students to play the magical game of MATHEMBOLA. The students played the game by striking off the number spoken by the teacher in
terms of either ISD codes or mathematical statements.
The enthusiasm and the excitement soared high
when the results were announced and the prizes were distributed by ISA
Coordinator, Ms Sonjuhi .The principal, Ms Vipula Saxena appreciated the efforts put in by the
mentors .Over all, the activity was fun yet a great learning experience.
