SAVING LIVES...

"Life is a miracle not a mirage."
I was leaping bounds and was at cloud nine when the results of the QUIZ 2013 was announced, I was among the few who got an opportunity to see the wilderness of my friends aware of my devouring fish, advised me not to eat uoncella. I could not comprehend. Uhh! Vegetarians!
Sailing in the ship of joy and happiness, I reached Peru’s South Eastern Amazon which is infamous for illegal gold mining. To my utter surprise I found World health Organization has reported that children, women and even unborn were exposed to alarmingly high mercury levels. All thanks to mercury which is being dumped into the river. The ‘lethal’ has entered the food chain and human beings are bearing the dire consequences because of these innocent creatures called Doncella or Zungaro through gold miners. Now I remembered my friend’s advice and thanked him.
The heinous act of dumping tons of mercury in the river is a serious health hazard. Remembering UN Secretary, Ban Ki Moon’s words, “Are we leaving a scorched, dry planet for our off springs?”
Amazingly, Yes! Till we pledge to improve the worsening condition. Educating the masses is one such best accoutrement. Creating general awareness through slogans, posters etc. for the localities would also help. I insist that increasing employment opportunities will do wonders for Peru. In addition to these, treating water scientifically and a strict no - no to outlawed mining would be appreciated.
Reiterating the words of Margaret Thatcher, ‘we are the tenants and we have borrowed the mother earth form our upcoming generation holds true in the context. Every life on this planet has to be saved.’
